“We have been the main sponsor of the Duisburger Hafenfest for ten years, during which the event has become well-known beyond the region,” says Erich Staake, Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport), who is acting as the event's patron on the occasion of the 300-year anniversary of the Port of Duisburg. “This is also the inaugural year for a new event called Day of Schools, during which more than 1,300 high school students from Duisburg have a chance to discover the port and the many activities that go on in the port.
Those interested in history will also have an opportunity to purchase the anniversary book “300 Years Port of Duisburg - Globally connected, regionally anchored” at the duisport stand. duisport has also prepared something special for children, and on 2 May will officially introduce the children's book “Duisport Time Travel” in addition to the anniversary book.
Of course there will again be lots of entertainment with many musical highlights on the “Flaggschiff”, the Haniel-Bühne (Richard-Hindorf-Platz) and “Beiboot”, and on the Imperial-Bühne (Gustav-Sander-Platz). On 3 June (Friday), “Groovin in a Box” and “Dustry Lane Jazzband” will kick off the event on the two stages. Afterwards, the bands “A solas sin mi” and “Flashback” will perform on the Beiboot stage, while “Radio Duisburg” gets visitors ready for the impressive fireworks, which start at 11:00 pm, on the Flaggschiff stage.
The spectacular fireworks, which duisport has financed for many years, are the highlight of the Ruhrort Hafenfest. The approximately 30-minute fireworks display, which is accompanied by music, regularly attracts large crowds.
Other acts that are sure to contribute to a great atmosphere on the Beiboot and Flaggschiff stage that weekend include the “Peter Bursch AllStars”, “Mike Best”, “Showtic” and a new addition “Still Collins”. On Sunday, visitors can look forward to a spectacular program by the “WDR4-Band” and “Marquess” on the large Flaggschiff stage.
The motto of this year’s Ruhrort Hafenfest is again “Party Pur an Rhein und Ruhr”. Visitors can expect four days of great entertainment and culture, including a fun fair, port promenade, children's festival, fireworks and lots of great food. You have to come to the world’s largest inland port to experience a real port festival with an authentic atmosphere!
