TalentMetropole Ruhr: Bundestag President Dr. Norbert Lammert takes over patronage.
Duisburg, 06.11.2013 | Dr. Lammert: “Investments in education and training pay off. TalentMetropole Ruhr is an exemplary project for the whole of Germany.”
Support from Berlin for “TalentMetropole Ruhr”. Bundestag President Dr. Norbert Lammert is taking over the patronage of the Initiativkreis Ruhr project. “TalentMetropole Ruhr” combines campaigns by companies, universities and institutions aiming to support and accompany young people on their way into working life. In addition, the Initiative has developed its own ambitious programs with the target of discovering talent in the region – and keeping it. With exemplary ranges of education and new cooperation agreements the project is simultaneously securing the skilled labor base in the Ruhr region.
“Investments in education and training pay off. The commitment of the Initiativkreis companies to TalentMetropole Ruhr offers new opportunities to young people and is exemplary for socio-political commitment by business. Not only for the Ruhr region but also for the whole of Germany. Therefore, I am pleased to accompany this project as its patron,” says Bundestag President Dr. Norbert Lammert, who is still very close to his home town of Bochum and who represents a Bochum constituency in the German Bundestag.
The initiator of “TalentMetropole Ruhr” Michael Schmidt, Chairman of BP Europa SE and personal member of the Initiativkreis Ruhr, is pleased about the tailwind from Berlin: “A credible and committed patron such as Dr. Norbert Lammert is a great gain for our target of discovering and supporting talent and tying it closer to the Ruhr region.”
Establishing “TalentMetropole Ruhr” as a trademark of the region
Where other regions have already exploited their potential, the Ruhr region still has considerable reserves of talent. For example, this includes young people who do not gain the German higher education entrance qualification despite their abilities, or who do not use their opportunities to study in higher education, talented people with top performances who are not recommended to an institution supporting the intellectually gifted and many more. The declared aim of TalentMetropole Ruhr is finding out this previously untapped potential with new strategies and developing talent with targeted support. The Initiative consciously places its projects along the whole education chain. TalentMetropole Ruhr wants to encourage the (educationally) upwardly mobile and create opportunities for them.
The companies of the Initiativkreis support young people in various projects together with educational institutions in the region. It highlights new perspectives for the future and accompanies them when starting their careers. “Many successful Initiativkreis projects, such as Joblinge, Dialog with Youth or buddY, have found a creative brace in the TalentMetropole Ruhr project field, which pays into the overall success of the Ruhr education region. That the Bundestag President is providing his dedicated support for our concern is a further step in developing the Ruhr region into a talent metropolis,” said Bärbel Bergerhoff-Wodopia, member of the Board of Executives of the RAG Foundation, welcoming the personnal commitment of the parliament president to the good common cause. The potential of the Ruhr region, for example the dense higher education landscape or the many employers that support talent here, has to be brought further to the forefront. Erich Staake, personal member of the Initiativkreis Ruhr and Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG, emphasizes: “Our starting point was and is that not only do we have to improve the image of the region, we also have to offer a future to children and young people in particular. And this also includes creating sustainable foundations for the Ruhr metropolis consisting of well-trained people.”
