Significant growth in all goods segments
Duisburg, 18.07.2011 | 1.2 m TEU in 1st half of 2011
After it was possible to set a new record in container handling last year, the figures to the middle of the year confirm this positive development. Thus container handling on the three modes of transport ship, rail and truck rose to 1.2 m TEU, equivalent to a plus of 10% compared with the previous year's period. "If the development in container handling continues into the second half of 2011, we are optimistic that the record of 2.25 m TEU in total from last year can be increased again," said Erich Staake, Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG.
Other goods segments were also able to rise significantly in this period. The positive development in the steel segment should be highlighted here. Thus revenue relevant ship and rail handling in the duisport Group's ports achieved 20% growth to 15.9 m tonnes in the first half of the year. "Even if a slowdown in growth is expected in the second half of 2011 due to structural effects, we will be able to post double-digit growth at the end of the year. This is synonymous with a new best mark, including in total handling," added Staake.
