duisport builds truck parking lot in Hohenbudberg
Duisburg, 09.07.2015 | Capacity for approximately 50 tractor units / Ready by early August / Close cooperation with the city of Duisburg
Duisburger Hafen AG will repair the former parking lot on the grounds in front of the old rail car repair building in Hohenbudberg and convert it into a truck parking lot for tractor units. This is the agreement reached by the city of Duisburg, NRW.Urban and duisport. By the beginning of August, the lot will have 50 parking spaces for tractor units as well as sanitary facilities for truck drivers (toilets, shower facilities). Investments (including maintenance) will total several hundred thousand euros; the costs will be borne by duisport.
duisport and representatives of the city of Duisburg have already been working on a parking solution for tractor units along the access roads around the logport III terminal in Hohenbudberg since the end of the last year. Since the user of the terminal has not taken any measures to date, duisport took the initiative and leadership role on this issue. After the city takes over the land in front of the old building from NRW.Urban, duisport will build a private parking lot covering an area of approximately 1400 m2 over the next four weeks.
"Action was needed. The parking lot directly in front of the logport III terminal will make a significant contribution towards relieving some of the pressure in that area," says Erich Staake, Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG.
The parking lot, which will also feature security, will be open 24 hour hours, seven days a week. A permanent access control system will ensure that the parking lot is used only by tractor units that are heading to the logport III terminal in Hohenbudberg.
"I am really glad to see that Duisburger Hafen AG is looking after the construction of a parking lot in Hohenbudberg. I know from my numerous local contacts that the citizens of the city welcome such a solution, and I am convinced that the new parking lot will lead to rapid relief for nearby residents," says Sören Link, mayor of the city of Duisburg.
Besides signage for the parking lot around the terminal, the company also intends to display multi-lingual fliers, similar to those used by duisport a few weeks ago when the A40 was closed. The fliers will also include information regarding the rules of use for the parking lot.
