Flemish Minister-President Geert Bourgeois visits Port of Duisburg
Duisburg, 18.11.2014 | The important role of economic relations between North Rhine-Wesstphalia and Flanders
Geert Bourgeois, Minister-President of the Flemish government and Flemish Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited the Port of Duisburg today with a seven-member delegation.
Following the visit of Dutch premier Rutte two weeks ago, this visit to North Rhine-Westphalia is the second foreign visit since the new government in Flanders came into office in July 2014. As far as its relationships with neighboring countries are concerned, Flanders' focus is directed at the Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia.
A meeting with Minister-President Hannelore Kraft was followed by the visit of the Port of Duisburg with a boat tour of the facilities. Flemish Minister-President Bourgeois and his delegation, consisting of representatives of the Flemish government, were greeted by Erich Staake, CEO of Duisburger Hafen AG and the honorary consul of Belgium.
Minister-President Bourgeois places great importance on economic relations between North Rhine-Westphalia and Flanders, and the close collaboration between the Port of Duisburg and the port of Antwerp.
