Seal of approval “Ausgezeichneter Ausbildungsbetrieb 2016“ (Top Educational Facility 2016) - duisport first company in Duisburg to be certified
Duisburg, 05.08.2016 | When searching for an apprenticeship location, young students often find it difficult to determine how good an educational facility really is. It was precisely for this reason that the industrial psychologists at ertragswerkstatt GmbH initiated the seal of approval “Ausgezeichneter Ausbildungsbetrieb” in order to provide students with a reliable and neutral orientation guide.
The initiative “Ausgezeichneter Ausbildungsbetrieb” started at the beginning of 2013. More than 100 companies with over 4,000 apprentices and dual students participated in the current certification phase of the “ertragswerkstatt“ initiative.
Educational contents and future opportunities
To obtain the certification, the duisport Group - together with many other companies - underwent an evaluation of its apprentices in terms of their educational situation during the last few months. Taking part in an anonymous survey, the apprentices answered approximately 100 detailed questions about the quality of their education. Topics included educational contents, the treatment of apprentices at the company, and future opportunities. In addition, important key performance indicators, such as the number of apprentices that a company takes on and the number of apprentices who do not complete their apprenticeship were also compiled in cooperation with the companies’ human resources managers. “By combining these key performance indicators with the assessments from apprentices, young people are now able to obtain reliable information as to how good an educational facility really is,” says industrial psychologist Judith Grefe from “ertragswerkstatt“, which manages the awarding of the seal of approval. Because: Only those operations that are rated highly by their apprentices and that are especially committed to education can receive the designation of “Ausgezeichneter Ausbildungsbetrieb 2016”. To participate in the initiative, companies had to have at least five apprentices. “That was an important factor for us, because it was the only way to conduct an anonymous survey in which apprentices could to answer the questions openly and honestly,” explains Judith Grefe.
The duisport Group is the Duisburg first company to receive the seal “Ausgezeichneter Ausbildungsbetrieb 2016“. Tilo Schneider, Human Resources Manager at the duisport Group: “It is important for us that duisport is already able to project a positive employer image at the point where young people are considering their initial education, since this is an excellent way to address the potential shortage of labor in the future.”
Job diversity under one roof
As an employer, the duisport Group is home to a variety of business divisions, which contain many different fields of work and thus offer a number of educational opportunities. At this time, the duisport Group is training 42 apprentices in various commercial and technical professions. The company received excellent ratings from its apprentices. The company's positive overall environment, including above-average wages and flexible working hours, was rated very highly by the respondents. At the same time, the positive ratings applied to interpersonal factors are even more significant. The contact between trainers and apprentices, and the good atmosphere among the apprentices is another very positive factor. “We were very happy with the results, and it gives us even more reason to continue our commitment to education,” says Stephanie Adamczik, Apprenticeship Manager at the duisport Group.
